Autumn Light

As the days get shorter and shorter, the light seems especially brilliant, especially after a rain. I also get to see sunsets as I’m out and about as they now occur so early. In the summer here in Paris, the sunsets are really late and I’m almost always home then being such a party animal.

We took a walk near our place shortly after a rain and everything was glistening.
The sun on the Seine.
Even the sidewalks look good.
Leaves on steps, everywhere really.
The Grenelle bridge looks especially great in the light.

Gold

It was raining off and on-such a wet November-but I still walked through the Luxembourg Gardens.

The trees have just about dropped all of their leaves as you can see by this path.

A pile of leaves which is very rare to see in these gardens. Everything is kept in top shape. I bet these leaves were gone by the next day.

A replica of the Statue of Liberty, one of five in Paris.

The mums are still there.

This beautiful tree still had quite a few leaves left. Flowers for the winter have been planted in the bed in front of it.

A Sunny Day

Paris had a rare sunny day-it has been dark gray with lots of rain for days-and I went out for a bit to enjoy it.

They have the Christmas fair set up in the Tuleries Garden.

There are many rides and many Christmas decorations.

Another view of the ferris wheel with the Louvre in the background.

Crunchy leaves on the ground.

Light through a lamp. I had to put my sunglasses on!

Shops already have their Christmas windows ready too.

The Last Day

We were in St John’s, Newfoundland again before we headed for the States and explored the city a bit more and drove along the coast.

We went up to Signal Hill for really great views in a strong wind. We tried the last time we were here and it was shrouded in fog. No whales or icebergs were spotted. I think that happens in Spring.

A look down below where you can see the wind pushing the water and a lighthouse.

We were lucky to see quite a few areas with autumn leaves like this one.

We stopped at a Protestant cemetery where the light was great and there were yellow leaves.

As you can see, a tree was growing around this tomb.

A look at just some of the spectacular coast line that we saw.

Our last night we went to a restaurant called Mallard Cottage. The guy who rented us our car gave us the name. It was a charming place and packed, requiring a reservation.

They had mixed plates for serving, mostly old ones I think. This was an amuse bouche made of moose meat. It tasted like beef to me. I’m sure I wouldn’t have ordered it on my own.

Like Summer

I have a lot more posts on the Cotswolds in England but thought I better post this before we are well into October.

As I recall, Paris gets hot every September. Looking at old Facebook postings through the years, I mention the heat almost each year. This year was no exception.

I was in the area of Parc Monceau so strolled in for a few photos. It was Wednesday and it was packed with children.

Looks just like Summer except that the chestnut trees have beginning Autumn hues and there are chestnuts on the ground-always a sign of Autumn.

There is a Roman theme in the park.

The children’s carrousel was going.

A bridge right out of Venice.

Afterwards, I met a friend for lunch at this cute place.
