I took a bus one stop further than I needed to go to get a look at the Luxembourg Garden. There weren’t any flowers in the many pots yet but they had started putting spring flowers into beds around the grounds.
You can see some of the flowers in this photo. I always thought this statue was of Pan with his flute but it turns out to be an actor learning his lines. I always thought it sort of looked like he was taking a selfie with his iPhone.Too early for the umbrellas to be opened. The ladies terrace.Spring is almost here. The Luxembourg Palace now where the Senate sits.Another sign of Spring. I thought they might be lilacs but was told they bloom in May.
A lovely interior of a lux florist. The Luxembourg Gardens with the Pantheon in the background.View of Paris from the Pompidou. The memorial column at Batille.A typical French breakfast. This was a first restaurant meal, on a terrace, after a year of covid confinement.
My mother has always been known for her fashion sense, her clothing, her makeup and her jewelry. Before she died she gave me one of her rings. It’s really not my style, and is almost like what they used to call cocktail jewelry designed to go with flashy, sparkly dresses for parties. I wear the ring every day now in memory of her. It is a large square pink stone. Women compliment me on it all the time. On a recent trip to Mexico, I found instead of just shops full of Mexican crafts like sombreros or art, there were jewelry stores everywhere with the owners standing out front trying to tempt you inside. One of the men noticed my ring and complimented me on it. I told him that I wasn’t sure what kind of stone it was except that I knew it wasn’t a pink diamond. He took a close look at it and told me it was a pink topaz. I didn’t go into the store to look around as my mother would have done, but I was very happy to know what it was.
After a visit to the Medici Fountain in the Luxembourg Gardens I made a visit to the nearby Red Wheelbarrow bookstore. I try not to buy books as I am busy trying to pare down my book collection but, what the heck, I bought two. I will give them to friends when I’m finished.
Nearby is the charming 13, owned by a Southern American. I was going to sit inside but it was too noisy and hot so I sat outside under an umbrella and enjoyed the very nice day.My very good salad-spinach, grilled apples, pecans, cheese and bacon. I had lemonade to drink. Not the first photo I have posted of this statue of Pan.A lovely arcade across from the garden. The home of the Senate, a branch of the French government. They pay for the garden to look so fabulous.
A few months back I was in the Luxembourg Gardens and, as I always do, I wandered over to the Medici Fountain only to find it covered for some sort of renovation. I recently saw some photos showing that the work was finished so went back to see what was new. To tell the truth, it looked exactly the same. There was even green mold in the basin so I don’t know what they did. Still, it was nice to see.
Autumn is underway. The flowers are still looking good. Here it is. Very dramatic. This is Polyphemus spying on Acis and Galatea from Greek mythology. This fountain has been moved and changed many times since it was built in the classical Italian style by Catherine of Medici. There is even a fountain behind it.Great color. They haven’t replaced the flowers in the urns with mums yet. They always do.
It was gray and foggy all day long last week but around two in the afternoon the sun came out and I headed for the Luxembourg Gardens. (This was before confinement started again.) It like it much better than the Tuileries as it just seems more intimate. All of the trees that turn yellow in the Fall had done so. I guess orange and red leaves will arrive next month. It was a bit early for the mums too. Only the yellow ones had started blooming. Hopefully, I will be able to return in November.Looking across the pond towards the Pantheon. The yellow leaves were everywhere. I wanted to get a photo of the beautiful Medici Fountain there but it is covered with scaffolding undergoing refurbishment until June of next year.As you can see, the mums have a way to go yet.
I had planned to be leaving for Paris from Arizona the day after I posted this but my Mom took a turn for the worse so I’ve extended my trip for one more week. Anyway, more Paris photos from my archives.
This caught my eye in a bistro. I still remember that day.A stylish man.I like the long aprons that waiters often wear in Paris.Pretty Autumn light by the Medici Fountain in the Luxembourg GardenA big sail boat for the pond in the Luxembourg Garden owned by an adult.
