Linda Mathieu's experiences living as an American expat in France
The End
I took a train back to Palermo to spend the night before heading back to Paris. My hotel turned out to be in a very busy part of Palermo that I didn’t see before full of interesting architecture. It was almost sunset so I quickly put my luggage in my room and went to the roof to have a look at the scenery before going out on the street.
First a look at the train station in Taormina which I thought was charming.View from the roof of my hotel.A huge fountain below. A nice lady in the hotel told me it was called the fountain of shame because it had so many nude statues.I saw this unusual church on the nearby street. The streets were teeming with people this being a Saturday night. An impressive corner. There was another just like it across the street.Heading back to Paris. I was surprised to see snow. The night at the hotel did not go well. At 1 am I woke up hot and discovered that the electricity was off. It turned out to still be off at 6 am when I had to leave for the airport. I had to use the flashlight app on my iphone to find my clothes to get dressed, do minimal makeup, brush my teeth and pack. Then I discovered that the elevators did’t work either so went down four flights of stairs with my suitcase happy that I had packed lightly. I made it easily to the airport, got to Zurich to change planes thinking I only had three hours to wait, but it turned out to be five hours. Thank goodness, I like to read. I made it back to sleep at 9pm. It was a very long day.
