April 3rd-It has been a beautiful, soft, blue skied week-end where it is a pleasure to get out and welcome Spring. I returned from the States to find the geraniums in my window brown and crispy from some very cold weather while I was gone. I hope that is the last of it.

Every major church in Europe seems to be having a mass today for Pope John and Notre Dame was no exception. As we got out of the metro stop several blocks away, on our way to Notre Dame, we could hear the bells of the church chiming. People were pouring towards the cathedral. There was a huge TV screen set up outside so that the mass going on inside could be seen. There was no way we could get close to the church so we left after ten minutes or so. The bells rang the whole time we were in the area.

A view of Notre Dame, the people, and the big blue screen to the right-as close as we got.

This lion is on the back of Hotel de Ville, the seat of Parisian government.

This church looked great shining in the sun and is in the Marais behind Hotel de Ville.

One of the many beautiful bridges spanning the Seine.

Front of the Hotel de Ville-Paris wants the Olympics in 2012.

A typical street in the Marais, full of ancient ways and buildings.

It was a great day to get out and walk around beautiful Paris.
